Hope for the New Year

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

2007 was another difficult and trying year for the people of Darfur and the surrounding areas. It was also a very difficult year for the peacekeepers and humanitarian groups operating on the ground in Darfur and in refugee camps in Chad.

It is GUD's hope that in 2008 the situation well drastically improve and that governments will show and invest more political will and energies into defusing and ultimately ending the crisis in the region.
The year has started out on a good note with the news that some 9000 troops,police and civilian personnel from the new joint African Union (AU)-UN force ( which is to eventually swell to 20,000) has taken over peacekeeping in Darfur from the AU mission that was previously stationed there; it is our only anticipation that this new mission succeeds.

We here at GUD intend to regroup and double our efforts in 2008 towards ending the conflict.
